LEXRA, the global association dedicated to supporting and advancing the location-based entertainment extended reality (XR) industry, proudly announces that HTC VIVE has joined its founding board of directors. Dave Myers will represent HTC VIVE on the board, further strengthening LEXRA’s leadership by bringing on one of the most influential companies in immersive technology.
HTC VIVE’s participation as both a founding board member and sponsoring partner underscores the company’s continued commitment to the location-based virtual reality sector—an industry HTC helped create. In 2016, HTC spearheaded an industry-wide push to LBXR by enabling arcade operators to legally license VR content through its app store, VIVEPORT, laying the critical groundwork for today’s global LBXR ecosystem. Today, HTC works with partners across the LBXR space who rely on VIVE devices for all-day operation in locations around the world.
Dave Myers brings over 25 years of experience supporting operators and suppliers across mobile and immersive technologies, enterprise XR, and location-based deployments. At HTC VIVE, he works closely with venue owners and partners to solve real-world technical challenges, helping teams launch, scale, and optimize XR experiences globally. Known for his hands-on approach, Dave is passionate about making expertise more accessible across the industry and encouraging operators to reach out early and often.
“XR is an important part of our work at HTC VIVE, and I’m honored to join the LEXRA Board in support of the operators driving this industry forward,” said Dave Myers, Board Member, LEXRA, and Senior Director of Sales Engineering at HTC VIVE. “LEXRA provides a direct connection between venue owners and the expertise they need to get up and running, avoid preventable issues, and build more resilient operations. Supporting operator success benefits the broader ecosystem.”
HTC VIVE’s addition to the board also serves as a clear signal of the company’s ongoing investment in location-based XR at a time when the market is rapidly evolving.
“HTC helped establish the modern LBXR industry, and we remain deeply committed to its future,” said Dan O’Brien, President Americas, HTC VIVE. “From pioneering XR hardware and software platforms to supporting operators around the world, our focus has always been on enabling sustainable immersive businesses. Partnering with LEXRA allows us to continue that work alongside the broader community.”
LEXRA Founder and Executive Director Bob Cooney welcomed HTC VIVE’s participation as a meaningful milestone for the association—and as a strong signal to operators considering joining the community.
“HTC didn’t just participate in the rise of location-based VR—they helped make it possible,” said Bob Cooney. “Their decision to join LEXRA’s founding board sends a powerful message to the market. It reinforces that HTC remains invested in operators, creators, and the entire ecosystem, and it adds tremendous credibility and leadership to our growing association.”
With HTC VIVE joining the founding board, LEXRA continues to build a globally representative leadership group spanning operators, suppliers, content creators, technologists, designers, and venue builders. The association also encourages operators worldwide to become members, connect directly with industry leaders like Dave Myers, and access practical guidance from peers who have already solved many of the challenges facing location-based XR businesses. The association is committed to fostering collaboration, establishing best practices, and supporting sustainable growth across the location-based XR industry.
